Brad Smith is originally from the Chicago area and is the Director of Perfusion Services at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.  He earned his bachelor degree at Lewis College in Romeoville, Illinois and attended graduate school at Loyola University Medical Center, Department of Physiology.

He worked as a Research  Lab Assistant at Cook County Hospital in the Department of Anesthesiology and acquired his on the job training for perfusion from 1979 to 1981 at Hines VA Hospital and Loyola University Medical Center. He was grandfathered into the certification process and passed his ABCP exams in 1979.

In 1981 he relocated to Canton, Ohio to help start a new heart program at Aultman Hospital.  In 1989  he accepted the position of Director of Perfusion Services at St. John’s Regional Hospital (now known as Mercy Hospital–Springfield) in Springfield, Missouri where he currently remains.

During his career he has been a Regional Representative to AmSECT and Board Member and Vice-President of the ABCP.  Brad has been a Director of the Missouri Perfusion Society since 2010.

Brad and his wife Sharon,  a registered nurse, reside in Battlefield, Missouri and have three daughters and three grandchildren.
